RUN FOR DANIEL RAISES $2,575
Congratulations all finishers! This year's event attracted 121 athletes and their families for the biggest Calorie Burner 5k in 3 years. It took place at the Knights of Columbus on the same course used for the Epiphany 5k in April . We were blessed with a great crowd and beautiful weather. A kids fun run was staged after the start of the 10:00 a.m. 5k. Smoothies, bagels and other treats awaited all finishers. A beautiful video compilation of Daniel was presented by Dream Side Films of Manassas, followed by a dedicated presentation in sign language by Debbie Smith, with Passionate Palms Ministry.
On behalf of the Committee for the Third Annual Calorie Burner we thank each and every one of you for supporting young Daniel and his family. It is evident that by helping others, involving others and reaching out to others is what grows us and makes us better! So we should all feel good! It takes courage to ask for support from one's community and only until we ask we can't expect our community to know us or help us. We thank the Culpeper Citizen for raising awareness.
We extend our appreciation to all the sponsors (see list below) in and out of town, who graciously supported the event with financial contributions to cover race expenses and to those who donated food, drinks and door prizes. We are also grateful for our volunteers, for without you there is no event!! A special thanks to the Knights of Columbus for letting us use their facility. Again, congratulations! May all of you be richly blessed this holiday season and hope to see you next year!

Daniel is a 1st grader at A.G. Richardson Elementary School. He has been
diagnosed with a rare medical condition called cerebro-costo-mandibular syndrome.
He is awaiting a surgery in the spring for a titanium rib implant so he can live
as close to a normal life as his peers. The cost of this procedure could exceed
$200,000. The Daniel Garcia Fund has been set up to receive contributions from family, friends and other caring individuals in the community to help out. The
Calorie Burner will give 100% of registration fees and personal contributions
to this fund.
